Ruffwear Hoopie Dog Collar - Adjustable Reflective Pet Collar for Small to Medium Dogs | Perfect for Hiking, Camping & Night Walks

To start i'll explain this is the 3rd or 4th collar from Ruffwear I've owned. As tough as my dogs are toys/collars/leashes i always come back. Now some of that is the value of the product, but the majority comes from a love and respect of their design efforts.This is NOT a plain collar like you'd find at the dollar store.Pros:- Having the D ring separate from the tags is ingenious, completely eliminates the risk of clipping onto the tags with the leash- Quality fabric which is almost indestructible.- Tag silencer....but not because it kills the noise (in fact, i throw the rubber part away, since dogs are meant to make noise). The new metal clip they use to hold the tags on is the FIRST i have ever been able to use without pliers or swearing. Kudos to whoever came up with the idea to make it easy to get the tags on.Cons:- OK, i'm digging deep here just to be balanced.... The Ruffwear logo won't make it 3 months. The rubber material gets scuffed and chipped off. I didn't buy it for the logo, so i'm still giving it 5 stars!It's been three months since we got this and I'd say I'm moderately satisfied with its performance. As mentioned in other reviews, the attachment points are very good, as is the tag clip and silencer. Here are the two issues that resulted in its getting docked two stars:1. The wire tag hook has a protruding piece that easily gets snagged in carpet and other such snag-prone areas. It was destroying my carpet one string at a time, and I was also concerned that it would poke my dog so I replaced it with an ordinary circular key ring which is working much better and is much safer.2. The collar does not hold up will to scratching. My dog is not a heavy or particularly frequent scratcher, but the collar is showing visible signs of wear (strings pulled out of the weave). It is not bad enough to hamper its effectiveness as a collar, but the ratty look is less than ideal.Otherwise this is a great collar. It dries quickly after a swim. It gets funky, especiallyIt' in its thickest points, from time to time but a good soak in vinegar and detergent deals well with that each time.Although it might feel a bit flimsy, this is one tough collar. I bought this because my previous collar kept loosening up and made it very easy for my sneaky Akita to get his head out of it. I became so bad that I had to adjust the previous collar every time i put it on him. With the Ruffwear Hoopie Dog Collar, it stays adjusted exactly where it needs to be much better than my previous collar. It does get a bit loose, but I adjust it maybe once every couple weeks or so. I also love the fact the dog tag ring is separate from the key ring for the leash, and the rubber piece really does keep the metal tags quiet (He has Two metal tags, rubber piece in-between). All in all, I don't regret buying this collar.Although I've only been using this collar on my dog for a few days, I'm impressed with the quality of the product and the design. Separating the tag ring and the leash clip is a great idea and prevents you from accidentally clipping the leash on the tag ring. The collar seems to be relatively soft and not rigid like some other cheaper collars I've purchased before.Both of my dogs are approx 25 lbs and the small ended up fitting perfectly. I bought the matching Ruffwear Flat Out leashes for both collars and combined, they seem to be great products.I really like the color and design of the Klickatat option. The bright orange really stands out and looks very cool!I raise Leader Dog puppies so I buy a lot of collars as I save each puppy's to hang on our Christmas Tree after the pup has gone on to her life of service. Our Career Change German Shepherd has one of these and after 4 years of rough and tumble play with young dogs chewing at her neck and collar, her collar looks as great as it did on day 1. My only complaint is that they don't come out with new designs as often as I need new collars. Both designs I have are distinctive and get a lot of compliments. Love it.In the item description, they referred to a stretch fabric, but that only applied to one color. This is more of the typical web nylon (non-stretch). It works fine and I like the Ruffwear metal collar/leash attachment. It's really solid and easier to use than a typical o-ring. Ruffwear consistently makes a better design and materials than I see in other pet brands. You pay more, but you get more.Purchased this USED - Like New from the amazon warehouse and other purchases of the same description "Like New" have always come as described until now.The collar received was not only broken but was terribly dirty and smelled bad. I will still give this 4 stars because the actual product seemed just as great as other Ruffwear items. Just keep that in mind when you decide where to purchase through Amazon.I like this collar very much, but am disappointed that it has faded to a dusty pink color in just 6 months. Although I have washed it a few times, the fading is only on the outside surface that is exposed to the sunlight. My lab/mix spends most days outdoors but rarely basking in the sun because of her black coat. Seems to be of good quality other than for the faded color. I am going to try the $29.95 Ruffwear Headwater Collar in Currant Red...for that price, maybe it will retain it's original color for a long time....I'm hopeful anyway.I bought this as a spare for my Border Terrier who enjoys rolling around in the mud at puppy class! This is his second Ruffwear collar and I am very pleased with the quality of the item. It has a little rubber disc that sits between his 2 dog tags to reduce the jangling noise and a completely separate heavy duty D- ring for attaching the lead. They are machine washable pretty tough and nice and colourful. I would definitively recommend this product.My dog already has 2 of these collars in different colours so I knew what to expect. This is a very well made collar which has a handy rubber disc that stops your dog's ID discs from jangling. It also has a separate lead attachment which is very strong. They machine wash well which is handy if your dog rolls in unpleasant things like mine :-). They are quite expensive compared to some collars, but worth it in my opinion.Purchased for my dog after the small size of this collar was a bit tight, not used because when adjusted for my dog the buckle locaters near his throat so will pass on when I get a chance to a more suitable houndThis is the 2nd collar - the 1st one didn't fare too well through the play-fighting with Treacle's pup (now 16months old) & my son's husky, who both love grabbing her round the neck! Hope this one lasts longer! But it does look great on her. The red currant one looks lovely on Crumble too (the pup).These are the best doggie collars ever - I even put mine in the washing machine and they come out sparkling! Very light weight, so dogs appreciate them.
